Breaking God's law is sin. According to 1 John 3:4, "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law." Romans 5:13 says "...but sin is not imputed when there is no law." Sin is breaking God's law. It is a sin to kill, because God said do not kill. It is a sin to steal because God said do not steal. It is not a sin to speed even though man has a law that says do not speed, because God never set it as a requirement. Some people believe going to the movies or dancing is a sin, but that is false as well. Why? Because God never said we couldn't dance or go to the movies. We even see dancing in the Bible. God's law is more than just the ten commandments and appears greatly in the first five books of the Bible. These laws include marriage, how to deal with one's neighbor, and much more.
Adam and Eve did not eat an apple. They ate the "fruit of lies" or words that the serpent, also known as satan, spoke to them. Nowhere can we read that Adam and Eve ate an actual apple or any other physical fruit. The Bible uses the term eat when referring to how information is absorbed by an individual. When Jesus said take and eat of my body, he wasn't talking about cannibalism or the eating of his physical body. Jesus was saying eat, or absorb, or read, his words, as in the word of God, also known as the Holy Bible.
Jesus honored the Sabbath on the 7th day of the week. He did not change any laws or times. In 321 AD, Roman Emperor Constantine I made it a crime for anyone to rest on the 7th day of the week. He made a decree that the 1st day of the week would be the sabbath because the 1st day or Sunday was tied to sun worship and Constantine was a sun worshipper. In 364 AD the Council of Laodicea made it a law that Christians would honor Sunday and made it a crime for Christians to rest on the Sabbath.
Idolatry is the worship of idols or false gods. Idolatry still exists today. Often times the worship of a false god is veiled with the pretense that the worship is centered around Jesus. For instance, Jesus ordained a 7th day Sabbath worship. Under the rule of the Roman empire, man changed the sabbath of rest to Sunday so that followers of Jesus would worship the sun as the Romans did for many years before they made the change. We still see idolatry in the celebration of Christmas, Valentine's Day, Halloween, and even in idolizing individuals such as celebrities, loved ones, or our own selves.
The Bible teaches that hell is real and describes it as a place of judgment prepared for the devil and those who reject the word of God (Matthew 25:41). It also warns that not everyone will enter heaven, but that eternal life is given through faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6), and “whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Matthew 7:13-14 presents two paths: a broad way that leads to destruction and a narrow way that leads to life, with only those who follow Christ receiving salvation. In Matthew 25:33–34, 41, and 46, Jesus describes the final judgment where He separates people as a shepherd separates sheep from goats. Those on His right—called the righteous—are blessed and invited to inherit the kingdom prepared for them from the foundation of the world. Those on His left are told to depart from Him and are sent into “everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”. The passage concludes by contrasting the two outcomes: the righteous receive eternal life in the Kingdom of God, or New Jerusalem, while the unrighteous face everlasting punishment in hell, or the lake of fire.
The Old Testament is not “done away with,” but is part of God’s Word that must be followed alongside the testimony of Christ. Isaiah 8:20 says, “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them,” showing the importance of aligning teaching with God’s Word. Jesus lived in obedience to the Old Testament and said He came “not to destroy the law, but to fulfil” in Matthew 5:17, revealing that His law is still good. He also said, “Search the scriptures… they are they which testify of me” in John 5:39, showing that both the Old and New Testaments point to Jesus Christ, who brings people to God through righteousness, faith, and obedience.
Jesus said we are to live as he lived. Jesus kept the commandments of God. Throughout his testimony, we witness Jesus converse with the Pharisees about the law. We witnessed Jesus go into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and read out of the law, which was his custom. In Matthew 5:18 Jesus said, "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." Heaven and earth still exist therefore so does the law. All has not been fulfilled because we are still waiting on the return of Jesus and the judgment of God.
Easter eggs are the symbol of fertility. Easter is another form of idolatry. Mentioned only once in the Bible, Easter has nothing to do with Jesus, his death, or his resurrection. In fact, Easter originated as a pagan festival celebrating the spring equinox. The day was itself was used to honor Eostre, the goddess of fertility. Just like Sunday worship, Easter was reintroduced as the celebration of the death/resurrection of Jesus in an effort to bring Christians to worship idols under false pretense.
The Bible teaches that baptism is a command from Jesus and a normal response for those who believe in Him. In Matthew 28:19, Jesus said, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them,” and the early church immediately baptized those who received the gospel as shown in Acts 2:41. Scripture connects baptism with repentance and identification with Christ’s death and resurrection, saying believers are “buried with him by baptism into death” (Romans 6:3–4). While salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ, the Bible consistently presents baptism as an important act of obedience for those who follow Him.
